A program of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, Leadership El Paso is a yearlong immersion into our community's greatest strengths and weaknesses; its historic past and promising future. It's a magnified look at current events in an arena where key decision-makers and class participants share frank discussions and creative ideas, forging new partnerships and influential networks. Now in its 30 th year, Leadership El Paso look s for the best the city has to offer. While more than 100 people are expected to apply this year, only 40 will be selected to participate.
SELECTION: Participation in Leadership El Paso is open to individuals with a demonstrated commitment to community service. Preference is given to those who have achieved leadership positions in their field, and who are likely to be tapped for greater community responsibility.
The Selection Committee of Leadership El Paso will choose participants based upon the information provided on this application. In reviewing applications, the committee will look for participants who demonstrate the commitment and motivation to serve El Paso. To reflect El Paso's diversity, the committee seeks a broad cross-section of individuals active in business, education, politics, the arts, religion, government and community-based organizations; and representing a variety of ethnic and minority backgrounds.
Businesses may submit an unlimited number of applications, but no more than two persons per business will be chosen. If not selected, applicants are encouraged to re-apply for the following program year. Applicants must have lived or worked in the El Paso area for the 12 months immediately preceding the submission of the application.
TUITION: The tuition covers all program costs. In many cases, employers sponsor the participation of an employee, but a limited number of partial scholarships are available. Please do not allow the cost of the program to become the deciding factor in whether you submit an application.
COMMITMENT: Leadership El Paso is an intensive learning experience requiring commitment (calendar attached) including:
Attendance at a minimum of eight all-day, (7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) monthly sessions and the two-day overnight retreat.
Participation in at least three field trips and the class project.
FOCUS: During the year, our curriculum focuses on key issues facing our city. Experts on topics such as e conomic development , the military, healthcare, social services and quality of life moderate sessions, while key decision-makers provide briefings. That allows class members priceless opportunities to pose in-depth questions and engage in frank discussions on hot topics and current events.
TO APPLY: Complete and return an application or contact Yvonne Ramirez at 534-0526 or yramirez@elpaso.org for more information. If you cannot meet the required commitments at this time, please pass this application on to someone who may benefit from this unique experience.
